Need of Support

 

Students in the Need of Support category performed substantially below the ACT Readiness Benchmark.

Close

Students in the close category scored below but near the ACT Readiness Benchmark.

Ready

Students in the ready category have met the ACT Readiness Benchmark and are on target for 50% or higher likelihood of college course success by grade 11.

Exceeding

Students in the exceeding category scored substantially above the ACT Readiness Benchmark and have a much higher chance to be college and career ready.

STEM Score

 

(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)

Students taking both the ACT Aspire math and science assessments will receive a STEM score (calculated by taking the average of the math and science scale scores).

ELA Score

(English/Language Arts)

Students taking the ACT Aspire English, reading, and writing assessments will receive an ELA score (calculated by taking the average of the English, reading, and writing scales scores).

Composite Score and Career Readiness Indicator

(Grades 8 and Early High School Only)

Students who receive scale scores on the English, reading, mathematics, and science tests will receive a three-digit composite score (calculated by taking the average of the four tests). Below this score, “Bronze”, “Silver”, or “Gold” will appear, linking the student’s ACT Aspire Composite score with predicted performance toward an ACT National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC).

Assessment Unit

Every student attending an Arkansas public school shall participate in the statewide program of educational assessments required in Ark. Code Ann. §§ 6-15-419, 6-15-433, 6-15-2009 and established by the State Board.

  • How do students take the assessment?
    • The assessment is administered by a computer. A computer lab may be utilized to administer the assessment to an entire class or group of students. The assessment may also be administered in a classroom setting where students can take turns using classroom computers.
  • What does “computer adaptive” mean?
    • Computer-adaptive testing is a computer-based assessment that adapts to each student’s response. If a student answers a question correctly, the computer administers a more difficult item. If the student answers incorrectly, a less difficult item is presented. ISIP™ uses interactive content to measure a student’s reading or math ability and skill development with computer-adaptive technology.
  • What do the results of the assessment show?
    • Students’ responses classify them into one of three tier levels: Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3. Tier 1 students function at or near their expected grade level and may need only intermittent interventions to sustain their academic growth. Tier 2 students function below their expected grade level and need continual intervention to accelerate achievement. Tier 3 students function two or more levels below their expected grade level and need intensive intervention for their reading or math skills to improve. Classification is shown in each subtest as well as in overall reading ability. The percentiles for the tier levels are 40th percentile and above for Tier 1, 21st through 39th percentile for Tier 2, and 20th percentile and below for Tier 3.
    • Based on the results of the assessment, the Istation Priority Report groups students according to need and prescribes Teacher-Directed Lessons (TDLs). TDLs are designed to further remediate and/or accelerate students’ reading or math skills.

ACT Aspire Interim Assessments

Interim Assessments serve as a means for fast, convenient, and accurate measurement. They can be implemented at intervals leading up to the ACT Aspire Summative Assessment.

Assessments: 3 Interim Assessments, per grade, and per content area
Format: Fixed-format, computer-based, multiple choice
Grades: 3 through 10
Content Areas: English, math, reading, and science
Duration: 45 minutes or less
Available Feedback: Immediate, computer-based analysis and reporting

 

ACT Aspire Classroom Assessments

ACT Aspire Classroom Assessments are designed for implementation between their Interim counterparts described above. The flexible nature of these assessments allows teachers to interpret the best time for administration. Each assessment provides short-term, guiding insights to student progress.

Assessments: 5 Classroom Assessments, per grade, and per content area
Format: Fixed-format, computer-based, multiple choice
Grades: 3 through 8
Content Areas: English, math, reading, and science
Duration: 15 to 20 minutes
Available Feedback: Immediate, computer-based analysis and reporting
Configuration: Each five-item Assessment is mapped to 1-2 Standards

ACT for Educators

The ACT® is a curriculum- and standards-based educational and career planning tool that assesses students’ academic readiness for college. The ACT is the capstone of our College and Career Readiness System.

Available for all students in grade 11 paid for by the state.

Students may take it at other grade levels and it is recommended that students take it multiple times.  Students should see the school counselors for more information on taking the ACT and ACT waivers.
