Following Governor Asa Hutchinson’s decision to lift the mask mandate on March 30, our local school board voted to lift the mandate for the Deer/Mt Judea campuses. Face coverings are optional at school and school-sanctioned events. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. All other guidelines from the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) and the Arkansas Department of Education (DESE) will remain in effect throughout the 2020-21 school year.
Our DMJ students, staff, and communities have done a remarkable job mitigating the spread of COVID-19 in the school setting this school year. As a result of this dedicated effort, our instruction for our students has continued with minimal interruptions. Our success can be contributed to a variety of measures such as reduced class sizes, mask wearing, disinfecting and cleaning, handwashing, and social distancing to the extent practical. We will continue to social distance to the extent possible, clean and sanitize facilities, encourage hand washing, and respect others in their decisions.
The overall health and safety of our school community remains a priority. The staff members were given the opportunity to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at one of our on campus clinics. The district has worked closely with NARMC and the Newton County Health Department to assist community members who wanted to receive the vaccine.
We will continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 numbers in our district’s communities and those surrounding areas. The district will continue to work with ADH and DESE in regards to reporting, testing, and continued updates on COVID-19.
